RANZ Hub — Terms of Use

Effective date: 20 April 2026
Version: 2026.05

1. Who these terms are with

The RANZ Hub ("the Hub") is operated by the Roofing Association of New Zealand Incorporated ("RANZ", "we", "our", "us"). By creating an account or using the Hub, you ("you", "the user") agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Hub.

2. What the Hub is — and what it isn't

The Hub provides learning content, calculators, an AI-assisted "Ask" assistant, a forum, the Compliance Wizard, the Wind Zone lookup, toolbox talks, and links to source documents (NZ Building Code clauses, NZ Standards, MRM Code of Practice, MBIE Determinations, BPB decisions, manufacturer manuals, RANZ guides, and third-party content).

The Hub is provided for general information and learning only. It is not:

  • engineering, design, legal, or specific compliance advice;
  • a building consent, producer statement, or sign-off;
  • a substitute for the NZ Building Code, NZ Standards, manufacturer instructions, or the advice of a suitably qualified professional;
  • a guarantee that any answer is current, complete, accurate, or correct for your specific job, site, product, or location.

3. AI features — "Ask" and AI assistance

The Hub uses AI (large language models) to answer questions, summarise source documents, classify photos, and assist administrators in editing content. AI can and does make mistakes. Specifically, AI output may:

  • misquote or misrepresent the source material;
  • cite the wrong clause, section, or document;
  • be based on out-of-date versions of standards or guidance;
  • invent ("hallucinate") facts, references, or rules that do not exist;
  • fail to identify a hazard or compliance issue that is present;
  • misinterpret a photo of a roof condition.

Cited sources are provided so you can verify the answer. You must open the cited source and confirm the answer in the current source document before relying on it for any job, certification, or sign-off. Your use of any AI-generated answer is at your own risk.

4. Calculators and lookups

Calculators (pitch, gutter, downpipe, underlay overlap, fastener spacing) and lookups (wind zone, toolbox talks) use simplified, generalised assumptions. They do not replace site-specific design or specification work and may not reflect:

  • special wind, snow, exposure, seismic, or geographic loads;
  • your specific manufacturer's installation requirements;
  • specific engineering design (SED) sites or non-standard buildings;
  • changes to NZ Standards or the Building Code published after the version in use.

Calculator and lookup results are a starting point only. You must verify them against the current applicable Standards, the MRM Code of Practice, and the manufacturer specifications for the products you are installing, and apply your own professional judgement before committing to a job.

5. Source documents and third-party content

The Hub indexes and links to documents published by third parties (MBIE, Standards New Zealand, BRANZ, WorkSafe, the Building Practitioners Board, manufacturers, and others). RANZ does not control those documents and does not warrant that the version indexed in the Hub is the current authoritative version. The publisher's own current copy is authoritative — always check the source.

6. Forum and user-generated content

The forum lets users post questions, share photos, and comment. Posts and comments are the views of their authors, not of RANZ. RANZ does not pre-vet user content and does not endorse it. Other users' suggestions are not professional advice.

You agree that you will not post:

  • content that breaches copyright, IP, or confidentiality;
  • identifying information about a client, address, or incident without consent;
  • defamatory, harassing, threatening, or unlawful content;
  • commercial spam or solicitation outside designated channels.

By posting, you grant RANZ a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, store, and (for moderation, safety, and platform improvement purposes) process your content within the Hub. You retain ownership of your content. Moderators may remove content that breaches these terms.

7. Your responsibilities

You agree that you will:

  • provide accurate sign-up and profile information;
  • keep your login credentials secure and not share your account;
  • use the Hub lawfully and in line with the Building Act 2004, the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, and the LBP Rules where they apply to you;
  • independently verify any information from the Hub before relying on it for a job, sign-off, or advice to a client.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Hub is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, RANZ disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted availability. RANZ does not warrant that any answer, calculation, citation, or piece of content is correct, current, complete, or fit for your specific job.

Where you are using the Hub for the purposes of a business, you agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that cannot be excluded under New Zealand law.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, RANZ, its directors, staff, contractors, volunteers, and partners are not liable to you or any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary loss or damage (including loss of profit, rework costs, defect liability, fines, penalties, claims, project delay, or loss of reputation) arising from or in connection with:

  • your use of, or inability to use, the Hub;
  • any answer, citation, calculation, classification, or summary produced by AI;
  • any calculator or lookup output;
  • any user-generated content in the forum;
  • any third-party document linked from the Hub;
  • downtime, data loss, or transmission errors.

If RANZ is found liable despite the above, RANZ's total aggregate liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to NZ$100.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify RANZ against any claim, loss, or cost (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms, your use of the Hub, or your content posted in the Hub.

11. Account suspension and termination

RANZ may suspend or terminate your account at any time for breach of these terms, misuse of the Hub, or where required by law. You may close your account at any time from your account settings.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will trigger a version bump and an in-app notice. Continued use of the Hub after that notice means you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. The New Zealand courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
